With so many techniques and products available to obtain a whiter and brighter smile, it can be difficult to choose what is right for you. The best way to start is to make an appointment and talk with your dentist about the differences between whitening agents. Dr. Miskin believes that home whitening is the best as it is fairly quick and lasts the longest.
Tray bleaching is a professional whitening system that uses a whitening gel placed into custom-made trays made just for you that fit perfectly over your teeth. The gel breaks down the hydroxyradicals and helps whiten stained teeth. This process whitens all your natural teeth and contains ingredients intended to provide maximum comfort. The tray whitening generally takes 10 to 14 days, although results may be seen in as little as 3 to 5 days.
Teeth-whitening strips are thin, flexible plastic strips with hydrogen peroxide on one side. There are two types of strips: one for the upper teeth and one for the lower. The whitening agent is applied by gently pressing the strips across your teeth to ensure contact with all your teeth. These whitening strips are typically worn for 30 minutes a day, twice a day. This moderately works, takes a long time to notice results and many boxes of strips are needed. It is not the best option but it does work.
